Apologies, dear readers, for the gargantuan whirring hole in the time-space-internet continuum that was our blog yesterday. We would like to blame larger, less provincial issues for being kept from our cyberspacial duties, but, in fact, we were merely maximizing our R and also R with our friends, Kristen + Rimas, down in Austin. That and—despite the late hour of our arrival and our world-weary bones—we could not keep ourselves from the five and a half hours of nail-biting, tear-jerking, heart-breaking pre-recorded television that were the twilight times of Lost. Seriously, ya’ll. If you never got into Lost, stop what you’re doing right now and Netflix that shit. Then let’s talk in 84.7 hours. Or we can make it an even 108…
But to make up for the lack of a post yesterday and give you, dear reader, your weekly dose of superb music—and partly as a tribute to our fine hosts in Austin—we’ve posted a new track from Minneapolis’ Cloud Cult today as this week’s Song of the Week. Cloud Cult is admittedly one of those bands that totally flew under my radar for the longest time, but I constantly found myself asking Kristen + Rimas about songs that caught my ear on their playlists this past week. The band in question every time? You guessed it—Cloud Cult. Come to find out, they’re a pretty intriguing and super-talented band of artists, in the most literal sense. Not only do they record and release their own material—repeatedly turning down offers from labels—the singer also runs an organic farm powered by geothermal energy and is married to a visual artist who creates paintings throughout their live shows and then auctions them off at the end. So, yeah, they’re super-corporate. Last month, they self-released an EP that includes a cover of Dylan’s Mr. Tambourine Man, which you can buy on their site, of course, and on iTunes, and will be releasing their tenth full-length album this August with a tour to support the release.
