Amy Schroeder founded Venus Zine—a magazine that covers women in music, fashion, the arts, and indie culture—in her dorm room in 1995. We’ve been fans of it since then, so we were beyond excited to have the opportunity to work with Amy on her venture in 2011—the DIY Business Association, a group that provided services to empower and connect creative entrepreneurs.
DIYBA held their inaugural conference in Brooklyn in 2011, and Amy asked if we could put together a conference program for her. The end result was 20-page piece that profiled the many talented people who took part in the conference and featured custom, Brooklyn-centric illustrations, distinctive branding, and a cover photo we shot of the Brooklyn bridge at sunset—a nod to the borough and the site of the conference in DUMBO. Amy also asked us to customize the DIYBA logo for the conference, which we did, pulling in the Brooklyn borough outline along with overlaying subway lines.
